ground-breaking voco-visual musical adventure.

From French cabaret song and jazz standards to contemporary poetry & original compositions, Nicole Peyrafitte & George Muscatello's collaboration arises from their shared desire - & need - to explore intersections between music, voice and images.

Muscatello is a renowned jazz musician in the Capital District. His playing - even in traditional settings - demonstrates an open-weave understanding of music, more spatial than linear, which moved Peyrafitte to initiate this collaborative experiment combining her voice & visuals with his playing. Peyrafitte, who has performed widely within and beyond this region, is known for expanding, crumpling, redefining and dismantling the envelopes of multimedia and vocal performance. She just returned from 5 months in Europe where George Muscatello joined her for a series of concert in Southern France.

Peyrafitte uses a Max MSP Jitter computer program for interacting with her visuals and sounds via a patch developed by Holland Hopson.

Nicole Peyrafitte

Born & raised in Luchon, French Pyrenees, Nicole Peyrafitte left her hometown, where she was a cook, in 1981. She then lived in Toulouse & Paris - where she modeled, cooked and worked for theater and local television - until she moved to the United States in 1987 settling first in Southern California and moving to Albany, New York in 1992.
Like the willful child in Marguerite Duras' Les Enfants, she resisted going to school "because they were trying to teach me things that I didn't know." Each step of her work attempts to fulfill her compulsion to learn through a process of immersion that generates performances incorporating voice/paintings/drawings/ collages/writing & sometimes cooking.
Peyrafitte performs locally, nationally and in Europe. With her partner, poet Pierre Joris, they have toured "SUMERICABACHBONEs," a voco-visual performance to Berlin, Austin, The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Buffalo and Rochester. She has just returned from touring (with George Muscatello & Pierre Joris) a French version of "Cabaret Nomade" in Southern France.
